The first days of January in the student dormitory are a special time when the next semester seems cloudless, and thoughts are busy with studies and new acquaintances. But on January 6, in the dormitory of the Gomel State Technical University named after P.O. Sukhoi, they talked about what should underlie any new beginning safety.

The reason for this important conversation was a meeting between foreign students and Evgeny Vladimirovich Bazylev, Senior Inspector of the Supervision and Prevention Sector of the Gomel City Emergency Department. Its central theme was "Fire safety rules in the dormitory: safety and prevention." However, the conversation went far beyond a formal lecture, turning into a frank dialogue about how to create a safe space around yourself in a foreign country.

Evgeny Vladimirovich immediately emphasized: it's not about prohibitions, but about the formation of habits that can become decisive. He explained in an accessible way why everyday little things from the habit of leaving your phone on charge overnight to smoking in the room — pose a great threat. The inspector paid special attention to autonomous fire detectors that can save lives.

But the most valuable part of the meeting was the practice. The students not only heard, but saw and tried how to act in the first few minutes when they smelled smoke or heard an alarm. The culmination was a master class on using a fire extinguisher, where everyone could understand the simple algorithm of its action. Evgeny Bazylev also dispelled many myths, focusing in detail on responsibility for violations and the main thing — how to prevent these violations.

"For students, especially those who have just arrived in the country, safety is the basis of comfort and confidence, Evgeny Vladimirovich concluded. Knowledge is your best insurance. Now you know not only how to prevent trouble, but also how to act wisely if something goes wrong."

This meeting, organized by the university, was a sincere investment in the well-being of the students. Because the real feeling of home begins with the certainty that you are safe here.
