In August 2024, a Memorandum was signed between the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus and Northwestern Polytechnical University of the People's Republic of China (Xi’an) to establish a branch of the NAS of Belarus in China.

Today, on June 23, 2025, this branch was officially inaugurated in a ceremonial setting. The opening ceremony was attended by 77 representatives of the Belarusian scientific community, including our delegates: Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Marina Gegedesh, and Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies, Vladimir Komrakov.

The ceremony featured welcome speeches by: Li Yanzhong (Secretary of the Party Committee of Northwestern Polytechnical University) Sergey Antonovich Chizhik (First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus) Ji Wenkui (Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province) Alexander Sergeevich Podkovyrov (Counselor-Envoy of the Embassy of Belarus in China) Jiang Jianchun (Head of the Department of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province) Zhang Xiaolei (Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China) Nie Shengkui (Head of the Department of Foreign Experts of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China).

All speakers unanimously agreed that the establishment of the NAS branch will promote the deepening of comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China. This event marks a significant milestone in Belarusian-Chinese friendship and cooperation.

During the ceremony, the leadership team of the NAS branch in China and their deputies were officially appointed. In the coming days, an exchange conference between Belarusian and Chinese scientists will be held, with our representatives also participating.
