Meeting with International Students: "Successful Adaptation: Integration and Support in a New Educational and Cultural Environment"

Sukhoi State Technical University takes pride in its long-standing history and traditions, high-quality specialist training, and modern facilities. This is why our university attracts students from all corners of the globe who seek quality education and the opportunity to explore new horizons. This year, the Polytechnic family has welcomed students from sunny Morocco! They have come to Gomel to acquire sought-after specialties and immerse themselves in Belarusian culture. We are confident that studying at our university will become an unforgettable experience for them, filled with new knowledge, exciting acquaintances, and vivid impressions. Before embarking on their academic journey, these young individuals will undergo training at the Pre-University Preparation Department, where they will study Russian and English languages. This will help them successfully adapt to the educational process and life in our country. Adaptation of international students at the university is a crucial process encompassing many aspects.

Imagine arriving in a new country where everyone speaks an unfamiliar language, eats unfamiliar food, and lives by different rules—sounds a little intimidating, doesn’t it? That’s why the university’s psychologist Irina Mikhailovna Rubanovich and the specialist from the Department of Ideological and Educational Work, S.M.E. Elsherbini, organized a meeting for our Moroccan friends to help them settle comfortably into their new environment. The participants discussed many relevant topics, with particular attention given to life in the dormitory. Students shared their impressions and asked questions about the dormitory rules, living conditions, and interactions with dormitory staff. The meeting was held in a trusting and friendly atmosphere, openly addressing the most pressing issues. Specialists explained that international students at the Polytechnic receive comprehensive support. The university hosts an international club, "Friendship," where young people can not only make new friends and learn about the cultures of other countries, but also take part in various exhibitions and celebrations, as well as practice language skills in an informal setting. The club is led by S.M.E. Elsherbini. Attendees also learned that the Department of Ideological and Educational Work has specialists who provide psychological support. Students can always turn to them for assistance if they experience stress or difficulties. The International Relations Department conducts consultations on document processing and organizes meetings with representatives of migration services to clarify important issues.
